Submit a new article| Infrared broad emission lines from an obscured quasar, IRAS 23060 + 0505 Pa-alpha and Pa-beta spectra of IRAS 23060 + 0505 exhibit line widthsthat are greater at longer wavelengths. The broad wing of Pa-alpha,which is clearly dominated by the broad component, extends to at least5000 km/sec. The difference between the broad and narrow lineextinctions must be caused by dust in the inner NLR, or throughout theNLR, which is seen in warm thermal emission whose temperature rangesfrom a few hundred to 800 K. It is suggested that the broad lineextinction affects both the optical appearance and the temperaturedistribution of the IR thermal emission through the reduction of the UVlight from the central continuum source into the NLR.
