The 78th Name-List of Variable Stars
We present the next regular Name-List of variable stars containinginformation on 1706 variable stars recently designated in the system ofthe General Catalogue of Variable Stars.

The University of New South Wales Extrasolar Planet Search: methods and first results from a field centred on NGC 6633
We report on the current status of the University of New South WalesExtrasolar Planet Search project, giving details of the methods we useto obtain millimagnitude precision photometry using the 0.5-m AutomatedPatrol Telescope. We use a novel observing technique to optimallybroaden the point spread function and thus largely eliminate photometricnoise due to intrapixel sensitivity variations on the CCD. We haveobserved eight crowded Galactic fields using this technique during 2003and 2004. Our analysis of the first of these fields (centred on the opencluster NGC 6633) has yielded 49 variable stars and four shallow transitcandidates. Follow-up observations of these candidates have identifiedthem as eclipsing binary systems. We use a detailed simulation of ourobservations to estimate our sensitivity to short-period planets, and toselect a new observing strategy to maximize the number of planetsdetected.

A Photometric Study of the W UMa-type Eclipsing Binary System GSC 0445-1993
Several new light minimum times for the eclipsing binary GSC0445–1993 have been determined from the observations by Koppelmanet al. and the orbital period of this system was revised. A photometricanalysis was carried out using the 2003 version of the Wilson-Devinneycode. The results reveal that GSC 0445–1993 is a W-type eclipsingbinary with a mass ratio of q = 0.323(±0.002) and an over-contactdegree of f = 22.8%(±4.2%). A small temperature differencebetween the components of ΔT = 135 K and an orbitalinclination of i = 65.7°(±0.3°) were obtained. Theasymmetry of its light curve (i.e., the O'Connell effect) for thisbinary star is explained by the presence of a dark spot on the moremassive component.

Times of Minima for Some Eclipsing Binaries
Times of minima for a number of some eclipsing binaries are presented.
